Camp Overview

We will helicopter into a camp at Houston Lake on the south side of the impressive Proteus/Moby Dick massif: 712-430 82K/14 (NAD27) at around 6650 feet. The Moby Dick massif is well known for its excellent rock, and this location offers access to many fine routes on Moby Dick, Proteus, Benito Cereno, White Jacket, Harpoon, Escalade, Billy Bud, and Claggart. Almost all routes involve at least 4th class rock climbing, with many excellent routes rated in the low- to mid-fifth class range. Most routes involve some glacier travel.

About Climbing Camp

The Kootenay Mountaineering Club does not act as a guide service at its climbing camps. Rather, it merely facilitates transportation of members into remote, rugged wilderness areas where one's activities must be governed by the level of experience one possesses in such an environment. Previous climbing experience is mandatory.
